Affogato (Italian for "drowned"):
Espresso served over ice cream. Traditionally vanilla ice cream is used, but some coffee houses use any flavour.
Americano (Italian for "American"):
Espresso and additional hot water, classically using equal parts of each, with the water added to the espresso. Americano was created by soldiers, who added hot water to espresso, to dilute the strong taste of the traditional espresso, during World War I.
Cappuccino:
Traditionally, uses equal parts (one-third) espresso, steamed milk, and microfoam. Sometimes topped (upon request) with cream and a light dusting of cocoa powder.
Doppio: (Italian for "Double")
Normally a double shot of espresso.
Iced Coffee:
Coffee is brewed beforehand, chilled, and served with ice cubes. In Italy, they refer to it as 'Caffe Freddo', it gets pre-sweetened and served ice-cold, but not with ice.
Cafè Latte (Italian for "milk"):
An espresso drink served in a mug with steamed milk, served with either a thin layer of foam or none at all, depending on the customer's preference.
Cafè Macchiato (Italian for "stained"):
A small amount of milk or foam is spooned onto the espresso.
Mocha:
A latte blended with hot chocolate for flavour.
